Mission

The Boston Society of Film Critics was formed in 1981 to make "Boston's unique critical perspective heard on a national and international level by awarding commendations to the best of the year's films and filmmakers and local film theaters and film societies that offer outstanding film programming."

The BSFC has dedicated past award proceedings in memory of members Robin Dougherty (2005) and David Brudnoy (2004) who passed before their time. The Best New Filmmaker Award was conceived and instituted in the memory of Mr. Brudnoy, a founding member of the BSFC and longtime radio talk show host on WBZ radio for several decades.
